Interview by Steve Chavosky.

Before you got on Matix you would wear the “M” logo shirt, saying the “M” stood for “Marty”. Explain this…
Ha ha, no no. 5 years ago I had two Matix tees that had a big “M” on them. I wore those tees a lot and you would tell everyone "Yeah look at Marty, he's so proud with his “M” shirt on! He told me the “M” stands for “Marty”!", like I would roll around with a Marty shirt on. You would even tell people I didn't know. It sucked! I had to stop wearing the “M” shirts…

You would insist on bringing that certain “M” shirt on every trip we went on. Explain…

No, YOU found my “M” shirt somewhere in my room and brought it with us on that LA trip, you f*cker, popping out from the back seat with the “M” shirt in your hand like "Good thing you didn't forget your Marty shirt so you can rip harder!" I think I threw it out the window?

We have been told that you get down like someone called "The Dobber." What's the story behind that?
Ah, yeah, I used to get shoes from the Osiris rep like so long ago. At the skateshop (Freedom) he introduced me to his friend and said, "Hey this is Marty, I used to hook him up with shoes. Bro, he gets down! He gets down like the Dobber!", which was his way of saying Chris Dobsaff. Now Mark Carroll tells people that I get down like “The Dobber”.

You've been known for taking other peoples contest runs and running into them right before their last trick. Why is that?
One time I thought it was my run, so I skated. Haha, yeah, no dice…haven’t skated a contest since.

What was up with that set of dice you and your ex-girlfriend would use? Why did you hide them from us?
Sexy dice! I didn't want to hear you talk about them for the next ten f*ckin years, so I hid them from you.

You grew up in Mesa, Arizona and are part of the Guad Squad. What is that?
We all lived on Guadalupe road in Mesa, the “Guad Squad”. You guys made stickers and sh*t, but that was it, really.

You get a lot of inspiration from bands such as Sabaton and songs like R. Kelly's “Real Talk”. What do you like so much about them?
Sabaton - because they’re fast and funny, and metal will be taking over the world someday. R. Kelly cause he’s horribly amazing!
