Staying true to its tag line, recent April showers will bring May flowers. You gotta love April as you know spring is in the air whether you’re a school kid on Easter break or with the ocean starting to warm up. Either way you are probably at the beach getting your base-bronze on somewhere. Summer is near my friends! April’s edition of Matix Monthly has some fun stuff in it so come inside.

Matix: In the May issue of Surfing Magazine you are featured in the “Players’ Club” exploiting your prowess as a lady’s man. About six months ago you (your girlfriend at the time) were featured in Surfing in a feature called “Whipped.” How do you go from whipped to player’s club in a few short months?
RW: Well, I guess having a girlfriend for like a year served as a cover-up to the rest of the girls so, they underestimated my sneakiness. You know what happens after you break up with someone - time to go crazy!
Matix: The guys at Surfing Magazine told me that being featured in whipped is the relationship kiss of death?
RW: I wouldn’t say it was true in my case but I have heard the same thing. That the month that whipped comes out is the month the couple breaks up. We made it a bit longer then a month so I guess it’s true for me too.
Matix: Let’s get back to surfing. You recently scored some sick slab wave in Hawaii?
RW: Yeah, we got this wave like a reverse Shipstern Bluff. It was mutant. There were some waves that once they hit the reef would jack to like, no joke, 40-foot faces. I rode a friends tow board and got beat on my second wave and broke the middle fin out so, I towed it on a twin fin all day. It was crazy!
Matix: Is there any coverage of the session?
RW: Not on the big day. No photographers were around till the next day, which was smaller and windier. It is a pretty fickle spot, needing the right swell, winds and tides. You need to be there at the right time.
Matix: Hopefully, we’ll see something from that session pop up somewhere. What else do you have going on right now?
RW: I’ve been training for the Ultimate Boarder contest, which is this week. It is a surf/skate/snow contest, whoever does the best in all three events wins like $50,000 —so, I’m going after it.
Matix: That would be a nice payday, good luck!

Matix: Tell us about yourself Turbo Nightrider?
Turbo Nightrider: Well, you have to go back to the OG Knight Rider which premiered September 26, 1982 starring David Hasselhoff as Michael Knight. Long story short, the technology that Knight Industries Two Thousand (KITT) used to develop a Pontiac Trans Am controlled by a computer with artificial intelligence has finally been released by the government. It was used in designing me, the Turbo Nightrider boardshort.
Matix: Wow, that is really interesting. What technology was implemented in your design?
Turbo Nightrider: 4-way stretch fabric with mesh flow-thru side panels, which were inspired from the air intake system featured on KITT. Velcro-free fly so you don’t get caught in any sticky situations. Contour fitted waistband, reverse coil garaged zipper pockets for maximum stealthiness. Like on the KITT, I come equipped with a bomb sniffer module, which will help you dial-a-bomb during each session.
Matix: That is insane!
Turbo Nightrider: Don’t just take my word for it, watch Ricky Whitlock in this week’s sode of Matix Mondays and in the clips where he is wearing the Turbo Nightrider’s, he is on all the best set waves. The proof is out there you just have to find it and please stop hassling the Hoff! |
